OK. BECAUSE I ACTUALLY DO MISS HIM? I DON'T KNOW...I GUESS DURING THE GAME I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT MUCH SINCE I HAD HIS SPRITE THERE, AND AFTERWARDS WE WERE SO PREOCCUPIED TRYING TO SET THINGS RIGHT...I GUESS IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER THAT I REALIZED I NEVER REALLY GOT TO SAY GOODBYE.
[He presses send, punching himself mentally for hitting the button. How was she going to react?? That was pretty...open of him to say. He felt kind of dumb. He gets up from his spot and shuffles around the room, sneaking glances at her every few seconds, waiting for her response.]

[Okay, this is getting ridiculous even for a species who grows up communicating with each other this way. She closes the screen and scrambles to her feet to go over to him, reaching out to pat his arm gently.]

I understand. It didn't hit me about Pounce right away either.

[He was eyeing her wearily on her way over, only breathing a sigh of relief when she touches his arm, visibly deflating.]

Well...I'm glad I'm not the only one. You and Terezi and Equius are lucky. You all get a second chance. Not me, as per fucking usual. All I got was a mental disorder. But I guess that was a long time coming. [Not that the effects of his little 'issue' haven't completely disappeared. He's still skinny, not eating as much as he should, and looks absolutely ruffled all the time. But he's been sleeping, and he's not nearly as disheveled as before. One step at a time, apparently.]

Don't be like that, Karkat! You're not the only one. Kanaya didn't get her lusus back either, you know. Sometimes things just don't work out right away.

[She resists the urge to give him a sharp little nudge in the arm. She knows why he's been down lately, and with good reason, but thinking that way isn't going to help him.]

Things will get better if you give them a chance and don't expect the worst all the time.

...thanks, Nepeta. [he tries for a reassuring smile and gets at least halfway there.] I gotta repay you, somehow. Uh...what do you even like doing? I mean it's been so long since we've properly...hung out. [had they ever actually 'hung out'? Aside from the game, Karkat never really spoke to Nepeta all that often. Didn't she have a weird crush on him? That didn't seem to matter, any more.]

[Seeing even an attempt to smile from Karkat is a big improvement, and she gives him a great big grin of her own in return, patting his arm reassuringly one more time.]

I didn't do it so you could pay me back! ...but I suppaws we could do something fun if you wanted? A lot of the stuff I like is what you see me doing here, playing with Pounce and painting and purrlaning adventures and sometimes trying to make yummy things in the kitchen. Even if Aurthour doesn't think I should be allowed to cook.

[Something which she thinks is quite unwarranted. It was only a very small fire that one time...]

Oh...no, I'm afraid not. I didn't think to get any! But we can go find some, how about that?! [An outing and a quest is as good a way of hanging out together as any!]

[though he still wasn't too keen on the whole 'going outside' thing, Nepeta looked so excited Karkat didn't want to let her down. He managed a smile, sort of.]

Yeah, okay, I could use a few laughs so non-Alternian cinema will be perfect if we can get our hands on some.

[She's mostly excited at the chance to get to do anything with Karkat, and at seeing him doing better than he had been before. But she won't say that it's all the same to her if they go out or not - she doesn't want to discourage him from going outdoors!]

Purrhaps we can find some nice romcoms for you! And a movie with kitties in it for me. Or maybe a movie with both. [She frowns.] I don't know, actually! We'll have to look and ask around!

[He can do this 'socializing' thing, right? He fiddles with his bracelet, his face reseting to his usual frown.] Yeah, sure. I'll send out a network post about it. Hopefully it's not flooded with numbskulled bufoons, as usual, and we get some actual useful information out of it. And I guess maybe it might be fun going outside again. I guess it is a nice day out and everything...nothing out hunting for our blood...just a city full of dipshits, nothing to worry about....
